About

Hi, I go by the internet handle of Nanto, although no one calls me that in real life. I like to subtitle Japanese anime and live-action, particularly shows from the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

I’ve also been collecting rare video in a variety of genres since 1982.

Hi. Do you have more episodes from Rainbow Sentai Robin? I am from Brazil, and the only tv Chanel that worked with them took fire years ago.

    Hello,

I have the original Gatchaman Fighter DVDs from Japan, and would be happy to get you uncompressed copies if you’d consider subtitling the series.

Could you sub the 1989 Akuma-kun anime, Magical Taruruuto-kun, or any of the Bikkuriman series?

Hey man! I’ve just stumbled on your blog, because I was looking for Azteckaiser episodes. It seems that you’ve dropped translating the series, which is a bit of a shame.
I wanted to ask, if you are willing to continue? I can volunteer as a timer on the series just to get them finished. Though, I don’t know nothing about it, but I am willing to learn 🙂 I am tech savvy and work as a Tier 2 rep in a software company, so I expect myself to pick it up at some point.

Also, can I post your translated episodes on Xtreme Wrestling Tracker? I am pretty sure there will be a lot of people interested in this. I will remain file names unchanged and mention that all credit goes to you.

    Thanks in advance, Nanto!

  10. Thank you so much for subbing Sukeban Deka! I loved the first series and love the second season even more. I’m 30 episodes in and and curious as to when the final two episodes will be released? It’s been a favorite to watch during my livestreams and our group loves it. Keep up the good work!

Any chance you could sub the Japanese Spiderman series, or Orochi on Gyakyushu (The kaiju fan movie made by the future memebers of Gainax back in the early eighties)? Anyway, love the work you do.

Hey, was wondering if you could post the soft subs (if you still have them) for Choujin Locke: Lord Leon. Wanted to re-time them to some 720p raws I found. Will give credit. Thanks.

    • Nanto says:

I’m planning on doing a revised release of all the Locke OAVs this year. The problem with the 720p raws is that they crop the top and bottom of the picture, to fit a 4:3 image into today’s 16:9 screens. It’s similar to how in the days before DVDs, most movies had the sides chopped off to fit 4:3 screens.

Hi, this may be a stretch but i thought you might know since you posted a few episodes of Yonimo Kimyona Monogatari with the Golden Nippon Network subs. I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_fxERlsNR0 which shows a few minutes of the 1993 NHK taiga drama Ryukyu no Kaze with English subs, evidently ripped from an old tape. The subtitles look just like the GNN’s (though it says Subtitles Copyright: TV Network Japan, Inc.), and the show is also identified as Dragon Spirit. I wonder if you know something about it, or might know someone who does? I’d love to watch that show since there is so little jidaigeki out there about Okinawa’s history, but I can’t find anything about it.
Apologies if this somehow posted twice, I tried posting it earlier but I don’t see the post.

    Hello,

I intend to purchase gegege no kitarou dvd boxes from japan but I do not understand japanese so I would need subtitles. Do you know where I can download them(1968-2018 especially earlier years, I mean subtitles for every single episode)? Or did they never exist?

    Like

    • Nanto says:

Sadly such a collection of subtitle scripts for the earlier GeGeGe no Kitaro series has never existed. I wish it did.

I’m kind of optimistic, though. If the new Kitaro series is doing well on Crunchyroll, that might inspire them or someone else to buy the North American rights to release older Kitaro series on streaming or even DVD. The success of the newer Lupin the 3rd episodes has caused episodes of the older seasons to show up subtitled on streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, the same thing might happen with GeGeGe no Kitaro.

Hey there! Love your website and can’t wait to check out some of the obscure fansubs here. I love when people provide the masses access to things they may never otherwise get to experience. Thank you so much!

I want to make people aware of a 1997 Japanese animated movie called Elmer no Bouken, based on an American book called My Father’s Dragon. The book was a childhood favorite of mine growing up, and I know that this movie will never be professionally subbed or dubbed. I suppose I just want to get the word out in case anyone thinks it’s worthwhile someday. The raw is finally available on YouTube again: https://youtu.be/5obEfjUyr6k

Thanks again for all the awesome stuff here! 😀

    • Nanto says:

One of the reasons Elmer’s Adventure is so forgotten is that it was only released on VHS in Japan. It’s never come out on DVD, and the VHS tape is a rare collectible. There are actually quite a few of the movie’s production cells available on Yahoo Auctions Japan, for much cheaper than the VHS tape goes for these days.

I’ve too wanted to sit down and watch this movie so bad over the years since this was my favorite book as a child! I actually own a mint Japanese vhs of it and even a small plushie of the dragon! I also have the French version which is a clean copy. All I need is the vhs converter program to rip a nice clean copy of it but we still need someone to sub it. Anyways if anyone wants to help out let me know! ~John

I’ve still got a working transfer setup for VHS, Beta and LaserDisc. So if you were willing to send me that extremely rare tape in the mail, I could do the transfer very easily, and then return the tape to you.

Finding someone to translate the dialogue might be trickier, but I have some ideas about people I could ask.

Fair question, and I kinda feel the same way. If I could find a translator willing to work on the series, or another group willing to take it on as a joint project, I’d love to finish subtitling Patlabor TNG (and the movie as well).

I want to stress on that I liked notes you gave on the top.

Official subtitles doesn’t give notes anymore, that 3 episode you translated was very well made with notes.

So, if someone going to translate that series I would prefer Skaro over anything.

Thank you for your response again.

  21. I remember ILA (Riva actually) once said all Starzinger was translated by Gxseries, they just needed the raws and time/edit all episodes. As we all know they never finished the project, which is a shame. So is this true and you have all the scripts?

    Like

    • Nanto says:

As far as I know, Gxseries only translated up to episode 50. And yes, I do have those scripts, though they are in need of editing and such.

Sorry I’m so slow in getting new episodes completed and released. I will try to do better with Starzinger in 2021, I’m a big fan of anime created by Leiji Matsumoto.
