GeGeGe no Kitaro movie #2: The Geomancer’s Eye (1980)

Here’s the second Kitaro movie, and the last one to consist of recycled TV footage. It’s actually a “fun size” abbreviated 12 minute version of series 2, episode 37. This was shown as part of the summer 1980 Toei Manga Matsuri (cartoon festival), which also included a Magical Girl Lalabel short, the Denjiman movie, and a re-release of the very first full length Disney animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Get it from Nyaa or Mega.

Kitaro is a joint project with Hokuto no Gun, who also released a chapter of the Yokai Hunter manga for Halloween. Check out their site here.

 Yokai Ningen Bem (1968) – Episode 01

Bem, Bella and Bello are neither human nor animal, but humanoid monsters. Inside their hideous bodies, a strong desire for justice drives them to seek out and thwart evildoers.  What makes this show different from other Yokai shows like GeGeGe no Kitaro or Dororon Enma-kun is that this little band of justice seekers don’t always go up against renegade monsters. Sometimes (as is the case in this episode) the villains are just greedy, conniving humans. Produced by Dai-ichi Animation (the makers of Golden Bat).

Get it from Nyaa or Mega.

I have quite a few unreleased one-off episodes of various anime and live-action shows that I may get around to releasing at some point. I actually subtitled this one in 2012. No current plans to do more Bem episodes at  this point, but you never know.

OMG at long last we’re seeing a subtitled release for the original BEM. Thank you so much, Nanto. I’ve always felt Bem was sort of a bridge between the traditional yokai antics of Kitaro and the more western-influenced super-demons of the ’72 Devilman anime. These subs will be a great help to put my theory to the test. Until now, I’ve only had the opportunity to check Bem in its Italian dub, and I have like zero mastery of the langage. Thanks again. You really are the best subber out there.

Yokai Ningen Bem was surprisingly good. Thanks for the release.
