More Lensman TV series fun from TSHS and /m/subs. Picking up from where the last episode left off, Admiral Haynes and gang arrive at the planet Dzoara in time for the Galactic Patrol squad anniversary celebrations, and decide do some sightseeing. They visit a monument to the planet’s greatest heroes: Reno and Ruri, a married couple who were instrumental in fighting off Boskone’s first invasion of the planet. Kim and Chris are invited on a tour of the inside of a weird organic spaceship, with telekinetic pilots that meld with the ship both physically and mentally. But Morou’s recent defeat in hyperspace does not mean he has given up on Helmuth’s orders to defeat the Lensman…
Both artwork and storytelling continue to improve with this episode. The clumsy attempts to move the Kim/Chris romance forward (in both the movie and TV series) kinda made me cringe up to this point, but this is the first episode where they actually seem to get it right.
Sadly this is the last episode of Lensman to be released on laserdisc, or any other home video format for that matter. Thanks again to Alrow for providing us with the laserdisc source for these episodes, as well as the Making of Lensman special. So from the next episode onward we will be using a variety of VHS recordings from the show’s original Japanese broadcasts, apologies in advance for the mixed bag of video quality on future episodes. The preview at the end of episode 6 is about as bad as it gets, many of the episodes are much better quality than that, but there’s only so much you can expect from ancient VHS recordings.
Oh, and I haven’t forgotten about that mp4 hardsub request…
Thank you Thank you Thank you

While it’s true that the quality of VHS recordings is unable to compare to videodisc or to that format’s grandchild, the DVD, don’t automatically dismiss those ancient tapes as a raw source. If the tape hasn’t been worn out before transcribing it to digital media from a *properly adjusted* player, it is still possible to extract a very good quality raw from it. (very few have the tools or the patience to spend hours forcing the finicky VHS tape system to provide the broadcast quality playback it’s capable of)

Still trying to find more episodes on my Beta tapes. Most were ID’ed by me back when the show aired, so that’s a plus. I can always check the guides at ANN as well. Anyway, just uploading episodes 7 and 13 from old Beta X-3 tapes from the show’s first airing. The tapes have held up quite well, probably since I never watched them more than once. Lots of other stuff on those old tapes as well, such as old Tokusatsu specials. Well, time to get back at it…

We’ve had a script for episode #7 ready to go for ages, but the copy we had of that particular episode was not as good as some of the other ones. Now that dougo13 has provided us with a better copy, look for subtitled episode #7 in the very near future.
